Alet studied Fine Arts at L’Academie des Beaux Arts de Meuron, Switzerland, and obtained a BA (FA) Information Design degree from the University of Pretoria (UP) in 1986. She established her own design consultancy in 1989 and also lectured Information Design at UP. Since 2000, she has been painting full time.
Alet’s work deals with transitional spaces as a place where boundaries dissolve, featuring tactile, emotional apprehensions of intimate places and experiences, to reflect on the inseparability of inside and outside, vision and touch, imagination and memory. She enjoys mixing the mundane with the fantastical in works that are meticulously layered, striving to achieve surfaces with a peaceful tone, aiming to achieve a quality that is simultaneously personal and universal.
